Let me pick my jaw up off the floor first by the assertion that "Nobody" "Ever" has explained what spirituality is (including what the spirit is).

Should We Worship Jesus?
by Perry inthere is one lord, one faith, one baptism.. jehovah and jesus are also both spoken of as savior.
this is true because even though there are two personalities, and jesus also possesses a human body, they both also share the same substance or essence of god.
this is similar to my son who shares 50% of my essence in dna.

Nobody has ever even defined what they mean by spirit.
Nobody? Ever?

Well, cofty, I understand why you say its fanciful blather. But a scripture came to mind. Don't mean it in a judgmental way at all. I just think it shows that without any sort of faith, which you freely admit that you don't have, it WILL sound like fanciful blather. You probably know the scripture I'm referring to...
1Cor 2:14 - The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Another example of Christians using metaphor and pretending they are talking about reality.
A glorified human body is not a metaphore. The Bible doesn't say that a person is not recreated as the WT teaches. It says that they PUT ON immortality. They are evntually glorified in human form. They would live off of the spiritual instead of the physical. You can't get much deeper than that because the scriptures don't speak beyond that. How do cells live without physical nutrients? How are we supplied energy? How do our bodies change over time, if at all? And, as you so nicely put it, will we fart?

This is the problem. People look at Jim Jones and think, "Ok, THIS is a cult." Because of the extreme nature, they then think that the WT is not a cult. It doesn't have the charasmatic power over people that Jim Jones had.
My position is this: The WT is MORE dangeous than Jim Jones. Jim Jones only killed 900 people. The WT has killed hundreds of thousands, with millions more ready to die for the doctrine of the WT.

Pterist, that is my belief exactly. Jesus is called THE MAN, even after His resurrection. Many scriptures talk about the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ, and to try and say it was not a bodily resurrection and that His body supernaturally dissolved, is going way beyond scripture.

Believers, do you believe in evolution?
by everchangingworld inafter leaving, i still couldn't wrap my head around evolution (after the years of seing "intelligent design" in everything around me).. there's a series of videos that give a good intro to evolution and critical thinking.
they've probably been posted here before, but, for any new members, these are worth watching.. evolution: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdddbyilel0.

is there scientific evidence or something that can be tested?
And here is where the problem starts. If there is a dimension separate from our own, the it is untestable using physical methods. The unseen spiritual realm cannot be tested while in the seen physical realm.
By its very definition, the supernatural cannot generally be tested. It's very nature is outside of nature.

much of what they teach is what i had learned through personal bible study.. growing up was normal.

I don't understand how in this day and age (meaning the internet age with access to so much information) any adult can be seriously contemplating
believing in and joining this religion
Hilary, I was just discussing this with a friend of mine the other day. And it was fascinating. He was raised as a JW, and eventually left because of wanting to experience the world outside of the WT. We met up and had a great conversation. He was unaware of literally all of the problems with the WT. He was unaware of the coverup scandles of child molestors. He was unaware of them being a NGO in the UN. He was unaware of the constant flip flops they've done. I was surprised. This is a VERY intelligent guy. He has his masters in finance and is very well educated. But when it came to the WT, the religion of his youth, he knew NOTHING.
I was able to inform him about a lot of the issues. Towards the end of the conversation he said, "I don't even know where to begin to find out about this stuff... Where can I go?" I told him all about jwfacts.com.
Afterwards, while thinking about it, I was shocked that someone could be so blind about it. It's almost like he knew where to get information on literally any other subject...EXCEPT the WT. It was almost some sort of subconscious block in his mind that info about them could be found.

Data Dog, thanks for posting that video. I think it's a great video to show how the WT stance on the soul does not make any sense. I think athesits might even find it interesting, even though they won't reach the same conclusions as the speaker does. It still shows that the WT position on the soul is incredibly unbiblical.
